Bad Decisions

I just feel like SCREAMING!!! I just spent the last 8 1/2 hours in the car with my three year old, my one year old, and Phil. It has been a very long day. It has been a very long WEEK. It is moving week. Right now we are in Rapid City, South Dakota on our way to Boise. We left Sioux Falls at 10 am, and just barely made it our hotel. I drove for a little bit today, which was big mistake #1. This mad Phil go crazy. Then Phil thought it would be fun to visit the Badlands, which it was interesting to see, but this became big mistake #2. Coleman PUKED all over the place. He got totally car sick winding through all the crazy "big rock mountains". Then after seeing 500 signs about "Wall Drug" we decided to check it out and this became big mistake #3. What a dump! I think we were the only ones there under 75! Anyway, I just needed to vent while waiting for the pizza to be delivered and Phil to come back from doing the vomit laundry. I guess that is all for now. Soon we are headed to the water park that is part of our hotel. Hopefully it won't turn into bad decision #4.

Good luck on the rest of your trip - I was wondering when the actual drive was to begin. Atleast you are on your way to Boise and it's not last week (when you had the stress of getting ready for the move.) Can't wait for more news and some pictures! Call me if you get bored in your driving time!

I heard about Coleman! Looks like he got your stomach for winding roads. Take it slow, stop a lot, and remember that you are making lots of memories! Yes, you'll be glad that you won't have to re-live many of them, but the idea of slowly exploring some of the country sounds like fun...I remember when we were considering driving our 3 and 1 year olds across the country from Virginia to Utah. You are lucky you don't have as far to go. Sometimes I still wish we had attempted it. Anyway, I"m totally rambling. Yes,l please call if you get bored during travel (ya, right - I know you're mostly playing entertainer for your kids). But, we'd love to hear from you! Love ya!!!!

Wow, I didn't even know you were moving yet! I was wondering when you guys were, I don't see Andrew much so he hadn't told me. That is a long drive :( Have fun, I want to see Mt Rushmore some day!

I hope you go to the Watiki, it's awesome! We just moved from there, also never understood Wall Drug...total waste of time! Good luck traveling!

I feel so bad for you! There's nothing worse than a horrible road trip. And poor Coleman! I feel his pain -- I got SO SICK when we went to Mt. Rushmore from all the winding roads. Hope the trip gets better tomorrow!

Oh I am SOOO sorry! If you read my post on Las Vegas--you will know that I can SORT OF feel your pain! :) Trips with little kids are killer--and you have two, not just one!! I hope you enjoyed the water park, though--and I hope you all make it to Boise safely!!

I'm sorry your trip is turning out well. We drove to Utah and back during July/Aug. On the way home we took the northern route through Mount Rushmore and South Dakota. We too wondered about the signs for Wall Drug. I'm so glad we didn't stop. We had to stop enough as it is (with feeding the twins and all). I learned that yes, you can blow bubbles in the car. It was a tough trip, and it's good to be home. I hope you get settled in your new place quickly and painlessly.

Aw poor Coleman, and poor you too! Justin can totally sympathize with the whole car sick thing, hence the reason why he always drives. I hope you had lots of fun at the water park, it seemed like it would be a lot of fun, but I was there during the worse week of my life so I didn't get to participate in the fun. I miss you guys and Maggie has been calling Coleman on her phone everyday to give him updates about life here in ND.

so i was looking at kayci bitton's blog and was intrigued by your "bad decisions' title...and holy cow i know EXACTLY how you feel. we did the EXACT same thing last month only we were going to rexburg from minneapolis and my mom was with me instead of Alan. Ryan and Caleb are 3 and 1 also and it was (excuse my language) HELL!!!! i am so sorry you have to do it too!!! ...but i have to admit i laughed at the Wall Drug part because those were my exact thoughts after seeing a billboard every mile for 150 miles...it must be cool! ...wrong :) good luck with the rest of the trip. it will be over soon! ....did you go to mt rushmore? it's a little out of the way...but it was the best 5 minutes of our trip :) ha.

I feel your pain Megan! We too went through those same areas in South Dakota on our way to Oklahoma City! I am so glad we didn't stop at Wall Drug.....Jake was tempted to because of all the signs! I will let him know it would have been a waste of time! I am glad you made it to Boise safe and sound! It stinks traveling so long with kids....thats all there is to it!!
